Kedron Lions Juniors: Promoting Respect and Inclusion in Football

At Kedron Lions Juniors, we are committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, families, and supporters. Football is a game that unites people from all walks of life, and we are proud to be part of a community that celebrates diversity and the spirit of fair play.

We strongly stand against vilification in any form, whether it’s racial, religious, sexual orientation-based, or any other form of discrimination. Vilification is not only damaging to individuals but also undermines the values of the sport and the community we work so hard to build. At Kedron Lions, we believe that everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs, deserves to participate in football in an environment that is safe, supportive, and free from hate.

What is Vilification?

Vilification refers to harmful behavior, including verbal abuse, discrimination, or harassment, that targets individuals or groups based on attributes such as:

  • Race or Ethnicity
  • Religion or Beliefs
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Gender Identity
  • Disability
  • Other personal characteristics or identities

In football, vilification can occur anywhere – on the field, in the stands, or even online. We believe it’s essential that every player, coach, volunteer and supporter feels respected and valued within our club and the wider football community.

Our Commitment

As a club, we align with the AFL’s commitment to creating a safe environment for all participants. This includes:

  • Zero tolerance for vilification: We do not accept any form of discrimination or abuse, and we encourage everyone to speak up when they witness or experience it.
  • Education and awareness: We strive to educate our players, coaches, and volunteers on the importance of inclusion and respect in sport. This includes understanding how words and actions can impact others and how to foster positive relationships.
  • Support for victims: We provide a safe space for anyone who experiences vilification, offering resources and support to ensure their voices are heard, and the matter is addressed appropriately.
  • Creating a culture of respect: We lead by example, ensuring our values of respect, integrity, and inclusivity are reflected in everything we do.

What Can You Do?

  • Speak up: If you experience or witness vilification, don’t remain silent. Report the issue so we can address it properly. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.
  • Be a role model: As part of the Kedron Lions community, we all have a responsibility to promote respect and inclusivity. Lead by example on and off the field, showing kindness and empathy to all.
  • Get involved: Educate yourself and others about the importance of inclusion. Encourage positive behavior and call out harmful actions when you see them.
  • Support each other: Be there for your teammates, coaches, and fellow supporters. A strong, supportive community is the foundation of our success.

A Club for All

At Kedron Lions Juniors, we want everyone – regardless of race, religion, gender, or background – to feel they have a place here. We are more than just a football club; we are a big Redlegger family, and together, we will continue to create an environment where every person feels safe, supported, and valued.

Let’s continue to uphold our club values of Teamwork, Respect, Effort and Fun, and work towards a future where everyone, on and off the field, can enjoy football free from vilification of any kind.
