More than 16,000 children across South East Queensland will lace up their boots for the first match of the season with Maccas® SEQ Juniors League returning to AFL ovals this weekend.
The 2025 season is shaping up to be another huge year with more than 1,000 teams competing across 45 youth and 67 junior competitions. The league features teams as far north as Gympie, south to Ballina and west to Toowoomba. New to the fixture in 2025 is the Under 8 Girls competition taking place in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
Head of AFL Queensland Trisha Squires said the introduction of this new offering is critical to creating a clear pathway for girls.
“We are so excited to see more than 16,000 kids across South East Queensland play footy for the first time in 2025,” she said.
“We have experienced significant participation growth here in Queensland and this weekend we will be welcoming an additional eight youth teams and 45 junior teams.
“On Friday night, the new Under 8 Girls competition will kick off. The introduction of this competition is a crucial step forward in growing the game for girls as they can now transition from NAB AFL Auskick to community football, playing in a tackle-free, all girls competition.
“If your child is interested in playing Aussie Rules this year, there’s still time to register. Head to play.afl to find your nearest club and find your way to play.”
In 2025 Maccas® also return as the naming rights sponsor and on July 19, there will be a Ronald McDonald House Charity Carnival Round, raising money for ill or injured children and their families.
“Thank you again to Maccas® for their continued investment in this competition and for supporting the growth of Aussie Rules in Queensland,” said Ms Squires.
