Celebrating Community Umpiring Week at Kedron Lions

Last week was Community Umpiring Week, a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital role umpires play in our game. At Kedron Lions Juniors, we were proud to get behind this important initiative and show our support for the people who make footy happen every weekend.

A big thank you to all of our coaches and team managers who took the time to acknowledge their match umpires, and to those who snapped and shared a photo to help us highlight their contribution. Whether it’s a first-year green shirt umpire or a more experienced official, these individuals deserve our respect and appreciation.

Many of our umpires are young people still learning the craft themselves. Just like our players, they’re developing their skills with every game – and they rely on encouragement and positive reinforcement to grow in confidence. Supporting them with a thank you, a kind word, or simply respectful behaviour goes a long way.

Unfortunately, poor spectator behaviour remains a challenge across junior sport. We remind all families and supporters that negative comments towards umpires are never acceptable. If you witness inappropriate behaviour, please report it to the Ground Marshall immediately so it can be addressed and followed up.

Let’s continue to foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive footy environment – one where players, coaches, umpires, and supporters all feel valued and safe. Thank you for playing your part.
